DAY 1: Immediate Aftercare
STEP 1.
Leave the bandage on the tattoo for 24hrs ( for a better healing process it is best to leave the wrap on for a whole week ). Tattoos will ooze, this is a normal part of the healing process. The wrap will keep airborne bacteria and any other contaminants invading your wound ( if you tend to sweat during the day and see transparent bubbles of water you must take off the wrap since it could get infected ).
STEP 2.
Make sure your hands have been washed thoroughly before you remove the wrap to prevent infection. ( it is best to take off the warp in the shower with warm water ).
STEP 3.
Gently remove the sandierm wrap: when it’s time to take off the wrap, do it slowly and gently, cleanse the tattooed area with warm water to make removal easier.
STEP 4.
Wash the tattoo: Use mild, fragrance-free, antibacterial soap and gently use your hands to clean the tattooed area. Do not scrub the tattoo with a brush or towel ( this should not be done until the tattoo has healed ). The idea behind the washing is to eliminate any dead cells that have been allowed to accumulate on the surface.
STEP 5.
Dry the tattooed area by ( do not scrub the tattoo ) gently patting the area with a clean sterile towel & Let the tattoo dry completely.
DAY 2-14: Healing Stage
STEP 1.
Apply an ointment or fragrance-free lotion: use aquaphor or polysporin ( you can can get it at any pharmacy ). After washing, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion to keep the skin moisturized and aid in the healing process. Avoid petroleum-based products.
STEP 2.
Don’t scratch or pick after a few days you may notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing. It is at this point in the healing process that our tattoo will being to itch, its normal for the tattoo to itch. Resist the urge to scratch or pick at it, as this can damage the ink and lead to infection.
STEP 3.
Avoid direct sunlight: keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and when exposed to the sun, apply a high SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen. Wear loose clean clothing that wont run against your tattoo, make sure it’s clean to prevent infection.
WEEK 2-4 Peeling and Fading
STEP 1.
Continue monitoring: even as the tattoo begins to peal and scab, keep applying a moisturizing product to help with the healing process and maintain the tattoos vibrancy
STEP 2.
Let it peel naturally: don’t force any peeling or scabs. Let them fall off naturally to avoid scarring.
STEP 3.
Avoid soaking: while its okay to shower, avoid long baths, swimming, or soaking in hot tubs until your tattoo is fully healed.
remember that every persons skin is unique, and healing times may vary, your tattoo will typically take several weeks to fully heal, but it may take longer in some cases. Following these aftercare instructions diligently will help ensure your tattoo looks its best and remains a source or pride for years to come.
